The Perfect Cup at home

At Something's Brewing we appreciate your business and want to ensure that when you buy our beans and brew it at home, that you still get  the highest quality cup of coffee.  A great cup of coffee begins with great beans, and we will do our part to provide you with the highest quality, freshest roasted, and best beans out there.  In order for you to have the same great tasting coffee in your home as we do in our shop, you will need to follow these instructions.

Preparing

1.  If possible buy a coffee grinder.  The best way to have a fresh, flavorful cup of coffee is to buy whole beans and grind the beans fresh right before you brew.

2.  Make sure your equipment is clean.  Leftover oils and coffee grinds can build up over time and spoil your fresh brew.  (If you need to know how to clean your equipment, come talk to any employee at SB's and we will explain it for you)

3.  Use quality water.  If you have a water filter or even a Brita that will work perfect.  Any Chlorine or Iron in your water can make your fresh brewed coffee not taste just right.

Time to Brew

1.  Use the proper coffee/water ratio.  This ratio is a little subjective depending on how strong or weak you like your coffee.  We recommend using a 1:1 ratio; which means 1 tablespoon of freshly grounded coffee to 1 cup of coffee as measured by your coffee pot. .( usually around 5-6 ounces of water)

2.  Temperature of the water and the coffee pot should be 195-205 degrees

3.  Do not pour a cup before the entire brew process is complete.  To get a great even strength cup of coffee you need to wait no matter how good it smells as it drips.  The reason is that the first coffee to come out is generally stronger than the last of the coffee to drip out.

4.  After the cycle is complete try to not let the coffee sit on the pot much more than 20 minutes.  Pour your coffee and enjoy the wonderful flavors, aroma, and distinct characteristics of your particular coffee.

Storing your Coffee

The best way to keep coffee is buy only purchasing what you can use in a 7 to 10 days time.  When you get the beans home store them in a sealed and air tight container in a cool, dark place.  The two enemies of coffee and cause it to loose flavor and aroma are exposure to air and moisture.

Placing your coffee in the freezer or refrigerator

Coffee should never be stored in a refrigerator.  The reason why is coffee has a tendency to absorb odors and moisture.  As far as storing coffee in a freezer, we believe that its typically something you should not do.  However, if you do decide to store your beans in the freezer make sure its placed in a airtight container and not exposed to moisture or condensation.  Once it is in the freezer when you need to use it, do not thaw it just use it cold.  Never re-freeze the coffee.
